B cell subsets phenotype in autoimmunity with immunodeficiency: analysis of a cohort of patients with APECED syndrome

چکیده
Background Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy candidiasis ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) is a rare autosomal recessive syndrome due to mutations in AIRE, characterized by autoimmune endocrinopathies and mucocutaneous candidiasis. It is accompanied by serum auto-antibodies whose generation has been mainly related to autoreactive T cells escape from tolerance mechanisms. Recent data suggest a T cell independent mechanism implicated in altered peripheral B cell selection and its possible contribution to the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease. Despite these observations, B cell subsets phenotype in these patients is still poorly characterized.

The Significance of B-cell Subsets in Patients with Unclassified Hypogammaglobulinemia and Association with Intravenous Immunoglobulin Replacement Requirement
Background: Patients with unclassified hypogammaglobulinemia (UCH) constitute a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma, because information concerning the clinical and immunological characteristics of these patients is insufficient. Objective: To evaluate B-cell subsets in cases with UCH and common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and their association with treatment requirement in UCH patients. Me...
متن کاملHyper-IgM Immunodeficiency with Enamel Defects: a Case Report
Background: Hyper-Immunoglobulin M (IgM) syndrome (HIGM) is a rare primary immunodeficiency in which defective B-cell isotype switching results in a phenotype characterized by elevated or normal serum IgM levels and low levels of other Ig classes, leading to an increased susceptibility to infection, neutropenia, autoimmune disorders, and malignancies. In this disease, a mutation occurs in the C...
متن کاملDetermination of lymphocytes surface markers in patients with thermal burns and the influence of burn size on mononuclear cell subsets
Background: Thermal burn injuries impair the host defence system. Hence, in the present study, we aimed at investigating the changes in the number and phenotype of peripheral blood lymphocyte populations (T, B, and natural killer cells) and their subpopulations in patients with thermal burns and determining the relationships with different sizes of total body surface area (TBSA). ...
متن کاملImmunodeficiency with Autoimmunity: Beyond the Paradox
The association of immunodeficiency and autoimmunity may represent a paradox, yet it has been described in an increasing number of conditions. Use of unbiased genomic approach to identify novel forms of primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs), along with indepth functional studies in biological samples from affected individuals continue to unravel novel mechanisms underlying immune dysregulation in p...
متن کاملAutoimmune Regulator Deficiency Results in a Decrease in STAT1 Levels in Human Monocytes
Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) is a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder typically caused by biallelic autoimmune regulator (AIRE) mutations that manifests with chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis (CMC) and autoimmunity. Patients with STAT1 gain-of-function (GOF) mutations also develop CMC and autoimmunity; they exhibit increased STAT1 protein levels at ...
